마이클 크레이그 마틴 展

This exhibition announces artworks of Michael Craig Martin who is the master of British contemporary art and the pioneer of conceptual art. It is the world’s first blockbuster show covering about 150 pieces of artworks from the early practice of the 1970s to recent new artwork. The exhibition is open at the Hangaram Museum of Art at the Seoul Arts Center until August 28, 2022. Michael Craig Martin, who is a first-generation of conceptual art, has worked as a professor at Goldsmith’s University in London, from the 1970s to the1980s. The artist is praised as the great teacher and godfather of contemporary art regarding his remarkable contribution to ‘yBa’ (young British artists) including Damien Hirst, Julian Opie, Sarah Lucas, Gary Hume and Tracey Emin. The exhibition covers a total of around 150 works from early works to his latest works. In addition, the exhibition is especially drawing attention through the display of a work titled “"An Oak Tree (1973)", which is an iconic work of conceptual art, for the first time in Asia. 영국 현대미술의 거장이자 개념미술의 선구자인 마이클 크레이그 마틴(b.1941)의 1970년대 초기작 부터 2022년 신작까지 그의 작업을 총 망라하는 약 150여점의 작품을 선보이는 세계최초 대규모 전시가 오는 8월 28일(일)까지 예술의 전당 한가람 미술관에서 전시됩니다. 마이클 크레이그 마틴은 개념미술의 1세대로 작가로 1970년대 부터 80년대까지 런던 골드스미스대학에서 교수로 재직하며, 데미안 허스트, 줄리안 오피, 사라 루카스, 게리 흄, 트레이시 에민 등 '영국의 젊은 예술가'(yBa)들을 양성한 스승이자 현대 미술의 대부로 칭송받고 있는 아티스트입니다. 이번 전시는 그의 1970년대 초기작부터 2021년 최신작까지, 총 150여 점의 작품들로 채워지며 개념미술의 상징적인 작품인 ‘참나무(An Oak Tree, 1973)’가 아시아 최초로 공개되어 관심을 받고 있습니다.
